Secondary school students in the academic years of 7 -11. So, students aged 11-16.

Which classes are suitable?

For students in Years 7 & 8 (aged 11-13) - the Year 7 & 8 Science classes are suitable. They can attend the Essentials class and the Comprehensive class.

For students in Years 9, 10 & 11 (aged 14-16) – the GCSE classes are suitable.

What is the difference between Essentials and Comprehensive classes?

The main difference is the level of complexity.

Essentials classes – focuses on necessary basic topics and is suitable for all students.

Comprehensive classes – focuses on more advanced topics and is suitable for students wanting more advanced learning.

Both Essentials and Comprehensive classes together are the best choice to maximise scientific learning and progress.

What should we expect?

Once a class is booked and you have registered, you will receive an email with instructions to join the class, this will be through Zoom webinar.

It will be a 40-minute virtual class covering a Science topic. With the use of PowerPoint presentations, polling and sometimes Q&A’s opportunities. The Science topic will cover content that is essential to the curriculum. Examination style questions may be introduced as learning progresses. Refer to FAQ’s tab for further details.

Are all classes 40 minutes?

Yes, I have found that this duration of learning will ensure that students remain focused and engaged and it is also thought to be the optimum length of time to do that.

How are the classes accessed?

The classes will be conducted using Zoom webinars. Details on joining the Zoom webinar will be provided upon the booking. Please see below on how to book a class.

Ensure that you join a few minutes prior to start time. This will lead you into a waiting area until the class begins.

What subjects do you offer?

I currently offer all three Sciences - biology, chemistry and physics, with the intension to expand to other subjects.

What examination boards do you cover?

The following boards are covered: AQA, Edexcel, Edexcel iGCSE and OCR. Please be aware that not all classes will be suitable for all examination boards. When booking the classes refer to the description for the class given. Most examination boards comprise of similar content. However, there are subtle differences amongst the boards.

Although, every attempt has been made to check the difference amongst the examination boards, any errors or omissions in the content of the learning materials Adept Tuition cannot accept liability. It is recommended that students check the description of the classes given with their examination boards.

What is covered in the Year 7 & 8 Science class?

One of the three Sciences (biology, chemistry and physics) topic will be covered. The topic duration will vary depending on the extent of the topic being covered. One topic will be fully covered for one Science, upon completion a new topic will start for another Science and so on.

What is covered in the GCSE class?

There are separate classes for Biology, Chemistry and Physics. For each of these Sciences - one topic will be fully covered. Upon completion, a new topic will start. This is the same for both the Essential and Comprehensive classes.

Will you provide homework and feedback?

Due to the virtual classes being online, it will not be possible to assign homework as it will not be possible to assess it. Therefore, it will also not be possible to provide feedback on the student’s individual progress. It is essential for hard work and continual independent studies outside of lessons to maximise progress made and consolidate learning.

How will you monitor student progress?

Due to the virtual classes being online, it will not be possible to monitor individual student progress. The virtual classes are designed to deliver teaching of the Science topics. Again, it is essential for hard work and continual independent studies outside of lessons to maximise progress made and consolidate learning.

There is the use of polling in the virtual classes to get overall feedback, in order to monitor generalised progress made from the start of the class. This feedback will also be used to direct and tailor my teaching.

As this is virtual online classes and not one to one tuition, it is not possible to fully individualise, to the students with different abilities. However, every attempt will be made to utilise the skills and techniques I have learnt over the years to engage and push students with mixed abilities. And this should not discourage them from participating the class as they will still be learning the content needed.

What will I need to prepare before the classes?

You will need to have computer access with a microphone, good strong internet connection, a silent space to work from, paper, calculator and other appropriate stationary. In the case where worksheets and other resources are provided, these should be readily available either electronically or printed.

What if I do not have computer or laptop access?

Our first preference is a computer or laptop. This will provide the most reliable and successful learning. Where students are unable to access a computer, they may under these circumstances use tablets or mobile phones, however these are less effective.

What if I paid for a class but it was missed?

No refund will be provided for any missed classes or late entry into the class.

What if I want to cancel?

In the case of cancellations, a minimum of 30 days written notice is necessary to Adept Tuition to request termination of your price plan. Refer to Terms and Conditions for further details.
